Ten Prayers To Pray During Tense Political Seasons

Often during political seasons, events occur, statements are made, news reports are given, or social media goes wild and we can find ourselves living in fear, resentment, or anger. We need to learn to step into prayer to go on ‘offense’ in a Jesus way. I recommend praying the following prayer points, based on Scripture, every morning so that you start every day inwardly free.

But to you who are willing to listen, I say, love your enemies! Do good to those who hate you. Bless those who curse you. Pray for those who hurt you.  Luke 6:27-28

I CHOOSE TO LOVE MY ENEMIES AND DO GOOD TO THOSE WHO HATE ME.

Today, I will look for ways to love and serve those who think differently from me. Where I see ____________, I will seek to be extra kind and I will seek to serve them in very practical ways.

I CHOOSE TO BLESS THOSE WHO CURSE ME.

Blessing involves speaking life, honor, and the top-half of truth over people. So I choose to speak life over _______. I ask God to release His goodness upon them today. I choose to speak the promises of God over them. May the kindness of God, which leads us all to repentance, be showered upon them today.

I CHOOSE TO PRAY FOR THOSE HURT ME.

God, I ask you to pour out your Spirit upon ___________. Grant them breakthrough answers to prayer. Bring them into alignment with Your will and purpose. Use whatever is happening in their life to bring a revelation to them, of who You are. Show Yourself in their lives. Break the strongholds that hold them bound. Reveal the voices in their world that are harmful, and bring around them voices of reason, life, and hope.

So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.  Come close to God, and God will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts, for your loyalty is divided between God and the world.  Let there be tears for what you have done. Let there be sorrow and deep grief. Let there be sadness instead of laughter, and gloom instead of joy.  Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up in honor.  James 4:7-10

I CHOOSE TO HUMBLE MYSELF BEFORE GOD.

Lord, I declare my dependence on You, knowing that You oppose the proud and give grace to the humble. I declare Your promise that as I humbly wait upon You, You will lift me up in due season. (James 4:10)

I CHOOSE TO RESIST AND REBUKE THE DEVIL.

In the name of Jesus, I rebuke and renounce every attack of the enemy against my life, my family, my church and my nation. I declare that every power of evil must submit to the name of Jesus Christ.

I CHOOSE TO WASH MY HANDS AND PURIFY MY HEART.

I grieve over the moments when I have allowed other things to be idols in my life. I choose to worship God and God alone. I turn from any lust, bitterness, selfishness, and idolatry. I choose to run to God. He is my strong tower and my shelter in the storm.

For God called you to do good, even if it means suffering, just as Christ suffered[l] for you. He is your example, and you must follow in his steps. He never sinned nor ever deceived anyone. He did not retaliate when he was insulted, nor threaten revenge when he suffered. He left his case in the hands of God, who always judges fairly. He personally carried our sins  in his body on the cross so that we can be dead to sin and live for what is right.By his wounds you are healed. Once you were like sheep who wandered away. But now you have turned to your Shepherd, the Guardian of your souls. 1 Peter 2:21-25

I CHOOSE TO FOLLOW THE EXAMPLE OF JESUS.

Jesus, I know that You promised that people would hate me because I choose to follow You. I accept that as a part of my destiny. I rejoice that You have given me the honor of being insulted for Your name's sake. I choose to follow Your example in the way that You suffered unjustly.

I CHOOSE TO SUFFER IN A CHRISTLIKE WAY.

I will not retaliate when insulted. Instead I choose to forgive the insult and absorb the pain of my offender. My prayer is that through the grace I show healing will come to those who insult me. I will not seek revenge or offer threats. I will not exaggerate the facts or speak in a way that is not becoming of Christ. I will not respond out of fear and anger.

I CHOOSE TO ENTRUST MY CASE TO THE JUDGE OF ALL THE WORLD.

I know that God will decide what is right. He will defend my cause and uphold my life. I will not live with the mindset of a victim, because I realize that the God of all creation has my back and will not let my surrender to Him go unrewarded. Like a sheep, I entrust my life to the care of the Great shepherd and guardian of my soul.

I CHOOSE TO BELIEVE THAT AS I SUFFER WITH CHRIST, HEALING WILL COME TO A BROKEN WORLD.

By His stripes, we are healed. That's the promise that I claim. Through Jesus's suffering and sacrifice, evil was destroyed and life was released. As we suffer with Christ, may evil be destroyed and life be released in His name. May God bring healing to his church and to this nation.
